Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I purchase a subscription license?

Subscription licenses can be purchased via our website or through our sales team. After adding the desired licenses to your shopping cart, sign into your existing account or create a new one to complete the purchase.

If you need any assistance or a custom quote, contact your local sales team or find a local distribution partner using our online map.

Once the purchase is complete, installation information and your license information will be available in the Customer Portal. Your subscription will automatically renew on the specified renewal date unless canceled.

  • Can I convert a perpetual license to a subscription?

Starting early January 2023 in select markets, you can receive a discounted price on the first year of an annual subscription when an eligible perpetual license is converted. To redeem this offer, enter the full serial number of your perpetual license in the discount code field during checkout. This process will transfer ownership of the perpetual license back to Vectorworks, and you will no longer be able to use any version of the perpetual license. If you need assistance or have questions about converting a license, please contact us at 888-646-4223 or sales@vectorworks.net.

  • Can I convert a trial of Vectorworks to a professional license?

If you have a trial version installed and the trial period has ended, you will automatically be prompted to enter a new serial number when you open Vectorworks. If your trial period has not expired, you can enter the new serial number under Tools > Options > Vectorworks Preferences. Click on the “Session” pane then the “Serial Numbers” button and click “Add” to enter your new serial number and begin using your professional license.

  • Can I install my Vectorworks license on multiple machines?

Yes, licenses can be installed on up to two machines, but you can only actively use your Vectorworks license on one device at a time.

  • Do I need to be connected to the internet to use Vectorworks?

You do not need a constant internet connection to use Vectorworks. The software must be able to communicate with Vectorworks' server to authorize each installation at the first launch and periodically afterward. Additionally, active subscription customers must connect to the internet within 3 days of the subscription renewal date.

  • How do I register as a tax-exempt organization?

If your organization is tax-exempt, please contact your local sales team for guidance. Prior to making a purchase, you may need to provide documentation of the tax-exempt status as we cannot retroactively apply tax exemptions to completed purchases. Once our team has processed your information, you will be able to make tax-exempt purchases directly through the e-store.

For additional questions, please review our purchasing policies.

System Requirements

Performance may vary depending on several factors, including hardware configurations and project types. This list represents the minimum guidelines to run Vectorworks products. Please check our system requirements page for a full list of guidelines and recommended hardware profiles.

  • Operating System

macOS 14 (Sonoma), macOS 13 (Ventura), macOS 12 (Monterey), macOS 11 (Big Sur), Windows 11, Windows 10 64-bit

    Processor

Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5, or better, Apple M1 or higher

    Screen Resolution

    1440 x 900 or higher recommended

    RAM

    8GB or more

  • Graphics Card

macOS M-series: M1 8GB or higher, macOS Intel: Metal GPUFamily1 or later, 2GB VRAM or more, Windows: DirectX 11 compatible, 2GB VRAM or more. 16GB Unified Memory (M-series) / 4GB VRAM or more is recommended when using multiple displays, or a 4K or higher resolution display. Some integrated graphics cards such as Intel Iris Plus/Pro/Xe series are acceptable for very simple models/drawings, but a dedicated graphics card is preferable.

    Network Requirements for Project Sharing

Project sharing requires high-speed network connections. As the network bandwidth increases, so does project sharing performance. Slower network speeds can still provide a satisfactory user experience if you minimize operations that transfer large amounts of data over the network (such as committing changes to the project file or refreshing a local working file).
